Privacy policy

What ClipStep does

ClipStep records browser interactions you choose to capture and turns them into tutorials. Recording starts when you use the extension controls or keyboard shortcut. It is not a background browsing-history collector.

Information we handle

  • When recording: screenshots of the visible tab, click positions, action types, page addresses, and element labels used to describe steps. Screenshots can contain personal information displayed on a page.
  • Recording data is stored in your browser while you record. Saving uploads screenshots and step information to your ClipStep account. Discarding removes the local recording; successfully saving clears the local copy.
  • Account information includes your email address, sign-in session, plan, trial dates and subscription identifiers. Stripe processes payment details; ClipStep does not receive your full payment-card number.
  • Shared tutorials have an aggregate view counter. Hosting, authentication and payment providers may process connection information, such as IP addresses, needed to deliver and protect their services.

Sensitive information and redaction

The extension attempts to pixelate password fields, email addresses and long numbers before uploading screenshots. This is a best-effort safeguard, not a guarantee. Review every recording and use the editor to hide anything sensitive before sharing. Never record passwords, payment details, medical records or confidential information you are not authorized to disclose.

Typed input values are not sent as step text. Visible page content, element labels and page addresses may still contain sensitive information, including URL query parameters.

How information is used and shared

We use this information to save and display tutorials, authenticate accounts, process subscriptions and send service or trial emails. The app does not include advertising trackers or sell recording data.

Supabase provides account authentication and database storage. Cloudflare R2 stores screenshots; the deployment host and an optional image CDN deliver the website and images. Stripe handles subscriptions. Resend may deliver service emails. These providers process the information needed for their role under their own applicable terms.

If you choose Improve with AI, tutorial titles, step titles, element labels, action types and page hostnames are sent to Anthropic to rewrite captions. Screenshots, typed input values and complete page URLs are not included in that AI request. Review labels and titles before using it.

Sharing is not confidential storage

An unlisted tutorial is not listed in a public directory, but anyone with its link can view and forward it. Its screenshots use hard-to-guess image addresses that can also be copied and opened directly. Marking a tutorial private stops its shared player and guide from loading; it does not revoke an image address someone already knows. Downloads, embeds, recipient copies and cached images may remain available after a sharing setting changes.

Video exports are rendered in your browser. The exported file is downloaded to your device, not uploaded by the exporter to a video-rendering service.

Cookies, storage and retention

Authentication uses session cookies and browser storage. The extension uses browser storage for recording state and screenshots. The current app does not add advertising cookies.

Saved tutorials remain until deleted. You can delete individual demos or delete your account in Account settings. Account deletion is intended to remove stored screenshots and account records; subscription cancellation must be completed first. Provider backups, billing records retained for legal obligations, cached images, incomplete uploads and copies held by recipients may outlive a deletion. Removing an account does not remove files you already downloaded.

Your choices and policy changes

You can stop or discard a recording, avoid sharing, edit captions, delete demos, disable the extension or delete your account. Browser settings also let you revoke the extension's site permissions. Privacy rights vary by location; use the contact below for requests beyond the account controls.

We may update this policy as the service changes. Review it before recording or sharing sensitive material.

You can manage billing or delete your account and recordings in Account settings.

Direct support is not available on this preview deployment. Account deletion and billing controls remain available when you sign in to a configured account.
